9.0 Sculpture with Armature

In this project I learned to make sculpture with armature. My sculpture shows the whole picture of the sea otter I created. The details on the front of my work are mainly the sculpture of the face and the posture of the limbs. The details on the side are mainly to make the face look three-dimensional, and the detail behind is that the posture of the tail should be natural. I first used iron wire to tie out a rough skeleton, which is a simple skeleton, mainly the torso and limbs. I used painter's tape to fix the joints between the wires to make them more stable. Next, I roughly wrap the wire skeleton with clay to make it look like the outline of a sea otter. Then I squeeze the head a little flat and round, squeeze the limbs and tail, and set the postures. Finally, I used the sculpting tools to add details such as the eyes, nose, ears, and fingers on the limbs. It turns out that wire armature is very helpful for a clay sculpture to keep some small parts fixed and stable. Before uploading this work to Behance, I used a heat gun to flatten the surface of the sea otter. However, it turned out that the surface of the sea otter melted, but it did not become flat (the smell is strange). So I gave up using the heat gun.
